Description:
When Frank Money joined the army to escape his too-small world, he left behind his cherished and fragile little sister, Cee. After the war, his shattered life has no purpose until he hears that Cee is in danger.

Frank is a modern Odysseus returning to a 1950s America mined with lethal pitfalls for an unwary black man. As he journeys to his native Georgia in search of Cee, it becomes clear that their troubles began well before their wartime separation. Together, they return to their rural hometown of Lotus, where buried secrets are unearthed and where Frank learns at last what it means to be a man, what it takes to heal, and - above all - what it means to come home.

Very well written it gives a vivid picture of the different locations where the events in the story takes place and of the people and their personalities.
A moving and touching story about the bond between two siblings and how much they mean to each other. It also gives glimpses of America and painful glimpses of the war. So short it's almost bordering a short story it still contains so much.

In 1993 Morrison was awarded the Nobel prize in literature.
A few years back I read Morrisons book Tar baby and was quite disappointed 'cause I didn't like it. (It's certainly well enough written - one is not awarded the Nobel prize without reason, but I still didn't like the story.) I'm so happy I decided to give Morrison a second chance with this book because it's a piece of art.

I found this book in the library at a hotel in the city of Linköping in Sweden. I released a number of bc-books there and brought this one with me.

Boken är hos mig, har missat att registrera bara. Läser för fullt, Älskar Morrison. Hon har en speciell ton, en egen röst.

Toni Morrison means so much to me. I think I have read all her novels, and I have enjoyed them all. I discovered her in the late 80s, when I studied English at the university. We read Sula and it spoke to me. Even though I have very little in common with an African American woman born in 1931, I felt at home in her books. She has taught me so much about American history, about women, oppression, but also about life and love. I wrote a thesis on the importance of names i Song of Solomon and I must have read that novel at least ten times, if not more.

This gem of a novel is short, but packed full of characters and stories. I love the feeling of different voices speaking through the novel. It's skillfully done, Morrison doesn't have to point out what she is doing in her writing, it's just there. The title speaks volumes. To come home, to go back to your roots, to return to where you come from - even if it isn't always where you belong anymore - is important to do in order to find yourself and sometimes to try to set things in order. Brilliant novel. Love it.

It arrived in Stenstorp on a very rainy day. Unfortunately the lid on the mailbox was open and all my mail got wet, including this book. It is not ruined but it does show.

I look forward to reading the book. Thank you for including me in this ring.
