Hmm... I wasn't impressed. Yes, this is a short, easy, quick read. However, it is not particularly well-written, nor is it as engaging as I had hoped it would be. Perhaps most egregiously, after wrapping up the story in the final chapter, Patterson apparently felt compelled to add an epilogue that resulted in a cliff-hanger ending. Because of this, there was no sense of satisfaction at the resolution.

I probably won't seek out more BookShots after having read this one. However, I think the concept of short, fast reads, if well-executed, could appeal to some people who have very little reading time. I'd like to see other, more highly-skilled, authors give this format a try.

Thanks for this wishlist book! I've read a few reviews of the Bookshots books (not all good) but I'll give this one a try to see if I want to read more. :)

This is one of the new "Bookshots" short novels that Patterson is writing along with his team of co-authors. I recently saw a news story about Patterson on the CBS morning show where he shows that he has scores of these short novels in the works!

Anyway, not sure how these will pan out. This story was very fast-paced and I was able to read it in a few hours...it's only 113 pages. Cross's old nemesis, Gary Soneji, apparently has returned from the dead and ambushes Cross and his partner, John Sampson, while they were assisting at a Catholic School cafeteria. Sampson is seriously injured with a shot to the head while Cross is protected by his flack vest. Cross then is on a hectic chase to try to find Soneji before he can strike again. But is it really Soneji? After all, Cross had seen him die 10 years earlier as related in Cat and Mouse.

Overall, this wasn't a bad story but the ending leaves you with a major cliffhanger. Not sure how this will be resolved...maybe in the next full length Cross novel or in another "Bookshots" story. If this is considered part of the overall Cross canon, then readers of the series will need to read this along with the other novels. I may check out some of the other Bookshots in the works including ones written in the Michael Bennett and Private series to see how they compare, but generally, I think I prefer the full-length novels.

Thanks for the little bookshots books. Sometimes, I just want to have a short story to read and these books fit the bill.

This is a fast paced story. Alex Cross is seeing ghosts or is he. He watched Gary Soneji die over ten years ago. But he thought he saw him today shoot his partner, Samsom. What's going on? Wasn't real happy with the ending. Hope Patterson will complete the story in his next Cross book.

Ten years ago Cross watched Gary Soneji die. But was it really him? Cross thought he saw him shoot his partner, Samson. Cross had on his bullet proof vest so even though he was hit in the chest, it didn't get to his body. Now he need to track down this criminal whether it Soneji or a look-a-like before he is killed. Didn't like the ending. It left me in the lurch. Hope there's a Cross book soon to take this story to it's conclusion. A fast pace read.
