I grabbed this wacky paperback at the meetup today - how could I resist? {wry grin}

This story turned out to be wildly entertaining, while also over-the-top unbelievable {wry grin}. The premise is that main character Robin Hudson has plans for a Girls' Night Out on Halloween, with a group of her women friends - but one of them calls and claims to have been kidnapped, kicking off an increasingly-bizarre scavenger hunt with very, very high stakes. Robin is quite sure - at first - that the whole thing is part of a typically elaborate prank by one of her friends, but as events unfold she starts to suspect that there's more going on here. And when the aged matriarch of a powerful crime family comes into the picture...

The story is set in New York City, and is largely a love-story to the city in all its strangeness. I appreciated the fast-paced chaos, and while the relationships between the group of friends sounded way too exhausting for my taste, I found the bonds they shared to be rather touching.

Action-packed and funny, a very diverting read!
