Best. Book. Ever.
I probably say that a lot, but this one really is one of my all-time favorites. Based on a true story, it describes the life of Karana, a teenage girl who was left behind when her tribe was relocated from its Pacific island. For years she lived alone there, finding food and shelter and figuring out how to survive on her own, kind of like Castaway for a YA book audience.
Thanks, SqueakyChu, for bringing this to the Bookcrossing meetup! I'll put this in my Little Free Library and hope one of the neighborhood kids picks it up and discovers a new favorite. (But I may just have to reread it myself first, for the umpteenth time.)
