The title and cover-art of this good-condition softcover caught my eye while I was browsing the books at a local Savers thrift shop. It's neither a bird-guide nor a collection of poetry, but a short-story anthology that sounds quite interesting.
Later: I didn't find this quite as involving as I'd hoped, but I did enjoy most of the stories. They illustrate the love of the land - and the drawbacks of a rural life as well. There are neighbors helpful and suspicious, lovers abusive and forlorn, families functional and most-definitely-not... The language is rich and lyrical, even when the subject matter's painful.
