Little Frank is an eccentric kid, Asperger's maybe? He likes to dress in costume and knows more facts than your encyclopedia. He lives with his mother, a writer and recluse; and sometimes Xander, an irresponsible but charming handyman and piano teacher. Alice, employee of a publishing house, is given the job to fly to L.A. and provide what is needed for the recluse writer to write her next book.
As a reader, I tired of everyone very quickly. Frank was entertaining but only for so long. Mimi, the writer and mother of Frank, was almost a ghost of a character. She only comes out once in awhile to growl her displeasure. Xander, always fearing he will disappoint, did. Alice spends her time caring for Frank. There just is not a lot of substance to this book. Frank is the shining center; the other characters dimly circle round him in a rotation of words and actions that only shine with the reflected light of Frank.
