I found this good-condition softcover at a local Savers thrift shop, and as it's a sports manga I hadn't read before I had to pick it up.

Turns out it's a very goofy comedy centered on an extremely lazy high school girl, whose ability to fall asleep and stay that way is practically a superpower. This causes problems at school, of course; she's always late, and has no social life because of the time she spends doing chores as punishment. On entering a new school only a few minutes' walk from home she hopes to be able to sleep *and* get to school on time - but lo! She's tapped to join the school hockey club. (Literally tapped - she walks in front of the car of the club leader, who promptly uses the damage to the car to more or less blackmail her into joining the club.) The club consists of five very handsome guys, and seems to be more of a "go to interesting places for good food" club - they don't have enough members to form a legit team, and so far haven't even played a game.

This premise is a bit silly, of course, and continues so as the promise of food entices our heroine into going along with the gag. (She's almost as fond of yummy food as of sleep.)

The group's attempts to learn enough field hockey to actually play - assuming they can garner enough members for a team - are funny in themselves, but most of the story deals with their travel plans and the many ways in which things go awry. And surreal... while staying at an inn in a remote region, the local wildlife tends to wander in, leading to humor with monkeys - and a bear, who winds up in a hockey uniform (however briefly)...

It's very silly, but I did enjoy it.

Interesting note: I kept spotting what seemed to be similarities or outright homages to Ouran High School Host Club, from the "trick the girl into damaging something and force her to join in order to pay for it" scene to the bishie-sparkle group-shot when she first meets the gang - but apparently this series started before that one did. The characters here are a good deal more shallow than the Ouran folk turn out to be, but the goofy-comedy aspects are similar.

[There's a short TV Tropes page on the series.]
