'Edgier than Bryson, hits harder than Mayle'
The Times

A year after arriving in France, Englishman Paul West is still struggling with some fundamental questions:

What is the best way to scare a gendarme? Why are there no health warnings on French nudist beaches? And is it really polite to sleep with your boss's mistress?

Paul opens his English tea room, and mutates (temporarily) into a Parisian waiter; samples the pleasures of typically French hotel-room afternoons; and, on a return visit to the UK, sees the full horror of a British office party through Parisian eyes.

Meanwhile, he continues his search for the perfect French mademoiselle. But will Paul find l'amour éternel, or will it all end in merde ?

MERDE ACTUALLY
In his second comedy of errors, Paul West continues to sabotage the entente cordiale.

Author's apology: 'I'd just like to say sorry to all the suppository fans out there, because in this book there are no suppositories. There are, however, lots of courgettes, and I see this as progress. Suppositories to courgettes - I think it proves that I'm developing as a writer.' Stephen Clarke

Thank you very much, joaquimponte . Now I'm curious to know if the author had the chance to find eternal love - or eternal hate - in France.

Well, its not great literature, rather works as something light to read.
After the first part of the book, the author stops joking about the French costumes (maybe because he runs out of subject) and makes a detour to London, revealing the weakness of his own culture, as seen by someone who has lived abroad and, therefore, see things in a different light.
Tired of reading about courgettes and the list of women with whom the guy sleeps this detour is, at least, something fresh.

Book is available to new readers

This book arrived last week, sorry for not having made a JE in time!

Thank you very much for sending this, it will be read as soon as possible. I actually thought this was the first volume, so I hope I get all the jokes without having read it first! D:

Unfortunately, I did not like this book at all. I really disliked the main character and I think the author shows an evident lack of effort into his own integration, trying to joke about it with distasteful comments about the situations he gets into. Also, it reduces the main character to a sex-thinking robot.

I wrote a review in portuguese, in case you'd like to read it :) : http://naomeapeteceestudar.blogspot.pt/2017/06/merde-actually.html

Thank you for sharing anyway, now let's find a new destiny to this little book, on a place where it will be better appreciated! =D
