From Goodreads:
Adam One - the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - has long predicted the waterless flood. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life. By turns dark, tender, violent, thoughtful and uneasily hilarious, 'The Year of the Flood' is a testament to Atwood's visionary power.

This book initially started off a little slow for me and I didn't know where it was going to lead but about 1/3 through, I started to really get into it. I didn't know what to expect of it but I jumped into it and found it really interesting and enjoyable.
I have not read the previous book - and didn't know there was a previous book until I looked on goodreads and it showed as book number 2 but I felt that this was a good standalone book and I didnt feel as if I was missing out on anything. Readers of the previous book may disagree though.
All in all, a good book - 4/5

Arrived safely in the post this morning.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Enthralling but somewhat disturbing book.
It can be taken as a standalone, but I think it helps to have read Oryx and Crake (the previous one), as it sets the scene for this one, and the characters gradually start appearing in this book. Eventually the two stories merge.
Looking forward to the last of the trilogy.
Thank you for sending me this, Nataliec7.

Had the most lovely bookcrossing meetup lunch and come home with more than I took......
I didn't used to get on with Margaret Atwood, but she's growing on me and thi one's an alternative apocalyptic future so right in my genre!
..........
Well, that didn't take me long! Picked up yesterday, read within 24 hours......
I really enjoyed this book, on the one hand based in some dystopian future, on the other hand so very very close to how the world is now. A reminder of the destruction of the natural world, the pervasive and increasing inequality, the power of various corporations. And beneath it all a human story. I loved the saints even if I didn't recognise them all, but was delighted to spot Saint Jane Jacobs, a name that i heard for the first time only a month ago and now seems to crop everywhere.
I think i might just hold onto this for a while until I can find someone to give it to directly.
