This sounded interesting and I'm a sucker for a pretty cover.

Something about this book is off-putting, though I'm not quite sure what bothers me. The story is compelling and the writing is decent. It starts with Margo, a teen who lives with her emotionally distant neglectful mother in a tough neighborhood. Their troubled relationship and strange living situation was very interesting. But then everything changes and it becomes a weird violence fantasy. And then it tries to justify and explain the bizarre violence, but very awkwardly and unsuccessfully. I think a tougher editor might have been able to whip this into something much more satisfying.
The author discourages harming oneself and others in an afterword and provides contact information for various hotlines. And a few pages later, includes her social media information under the heading "Tarryn Welcomes Stalking." I think Tarryn wants to say something about violence, but isn't clear in her own head what she believes.
