Yay! It's a Jack & Annie book! The Magic Tree House series -- in which a brother and sister from Pennsylvania (studious Jack and adventurous Annie) travel to different times and places via a stack of magical books in a magical tree house in the woods near their home. In this one, the kids visit the Arctic and get stuck on an ice floe.

I took this book home from the Bookcrossing meetup at Tysons Corner yesterday, and plan to offer it in my Little Free Library, where Magic Tree House books are quite popular.
