Alternate Empires (What Might Have Been, Vol. 1)
3 journalers for this copy...
A most entertaining collection of short stories. Normally, I'm not that thrilled about alternate history books, because the contrast between this world and that drives me nuts -- a little voice in the back of my head keeps yelling, "But that's not how it happened!"
What I found intriguing about these stories is how many had such drastic changes because of little things. There is the inevitable story about the time traveler who goes back in time to correct some evil deed. Of course, it doesn't work out well -- it never does -- but the time traveler keeps going back trying to get it right.
Part of the fun of these stories is trying to figure out just where the alternate universe split off. It isn't always obvious.

My downstairs neighbors are moving this weekend (they bought a house -- yay! but it's in Annapolis -- boo!) and gave me a box of books they had decided to part with while packing. I saw that this one had a BCID written on the top edge and knew I needed to log it. They stopped by and visited our booth at the Kensington Day of the Book and must have picked it up then.
I saw that the label showed it was registered by FURBALL and it made me both happy and sad. I think it is going with me to the meet-up and haunted Alexandria Release Walk Tour this month, which will be in memory of FURBALL because she loved Halloween. She is greatly missed.

Released 5 yrs ago (10/21/2018 UTC) at -- Somewhere In The City (Details In Release Notes) in Alexandria, Virginia USA
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
This book will be wild released somewhere in Alexandria in memory of FURBALL, a dear friend and fellow BookCrosser who was hit by a car and killed in early 2017. The members of the local meet-up group, BCinDC, will be taking a walking tour of haunted and historical locations in Alexandria led by LastCavalier, who was a friend to FURBALL. Halloween was her favorite time of year and this is the best way we know to honor her memory.
