There was a dead body or two. They were Christmas greetings from the Deaf Man, the master criminal who is back with deadly plans for the 87th Precinct. Detectives King, Carella and Meyer know the messages are clues to where the Deaf Man will strike next. What they don't know is that the Deaf Man has a special surprise in store for one of them, a grisly present for another, and a horrifying act of revenge for all the cops determined to catch this psychopathic killer. The Deaf Man is one of McBain's best characters. Every time he pops up, the adventure is extraordinary.

Received from ILuvToRead2 as part of the international reverse wish list bookrelay. I enjoy McBain's 87th Precinct mysteries, and recently read another with the deaf man, so I look forward to reading this.

Thanks!

I read this last week. It is not my favorite 87th Precinct novel. I enjoy the deaf man a lot and that is probably what saved the story for me. It felt like McBain phoned in the characters in this one. The acting was robotic and cardboard. I knew (or guessed) too much of what was going to happen too soon. He had some good ideas, he just didn't execute them as well as I felt he could have.

This book has been sent off with another 87th Precinct novel that I received from ILuvToRead2. Thanks again for sending them!
