An Arly Hanks Mystery 1
Paperback. - ©1987. - New York: An Onyx Book, 1991. - 236 p.
www.amazon.com (12.6.2016):
Arly Hanks doesn’t make much of being the first woman chief of police of her home town, since said town is Maggody, Arkansas, population 755. Nothing ever happens in Maggody, which is why she came home after a disastrous marriage in New York City. Luckily, the police chief job was open, so now she has a good job with nothing much to do.
True, the EPA official disappeared on his way through town, but there didn’t seem to be any foul play. It’s not like she’d rather be handling the case of a stolen dog, but then she learns that the husband of one of the barmaids’ at a local bar has escaped from the state prison farm.
But still, Police Chief Hanks is just as shocked as anybody else when a murder is discovered at the Flamingo Motel, a crossbow arrow in the victim’s neck, initiating a chain of events that turn the little town of Maggody upside-down.
