Madame Sadayakko (1871-1946) was the most celebrated geisha of her time in Japan when she decided to leave Japan with her actor husband and conguered the world. She captured the imaginations of the west and performed to the likes of President McKinley, Prince of Wales, Emperor Franz Josef and Tsar Nikolai II and inspired Puccini's 'Madame Butterfly'.
