A body is found in the woods.... Based on the true story of the shocking murder of Mrs Caroline Luard, which took place in Kent in August 1908.
Caroline Luard is shot dead in broad daylight in the grounds of a large country estate. With few clues available, her husband soon becomes the suspect... but is he guilty?
Bringing to life the people involved in this terrible crime, in A Dreadful Murder best-selling author Minette Walters uses modern detective skills to attempt to solve a 100-year-old crime.

A short but interesting read based on the mysterious death of Caroline Luard (as the title suggests!) The story is a mix of known facts & supposition by the author with both real & invented characters. The author suggests a likely scenario for the murder but interesting as the story was the outcome was too inconclusive to be able to form an opinion on whether the husband was guilty or not.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Welcome to Bookcrossing!
You have found a travelling book. Why not join in the fun? Read, release and pass on but don't forget to write a Journal Entry telling us where you found the book, if you read it what you thought about it and where you are going to leave it. If you join bookcrossing before you do the entry you will get an alert when the next person writes up about it and can track its travels. If you prefer to just leave an Anonymous Journal Entry, it will brighten up my day either way. Oh and if you like the book sooooo much you just don't want to let it go that is fine too, maybe one day eh ☺
Enjoy!!
Hoping to finish this quick read in time for the meet up

Picked up at the May 2017 BC Meetup. Looks interesting (and short)!
I do intend to read this myself - but, since Chuggypig has expressed an interest, I am passing it to her to read first...

I enjoyed this short story by Minette Walters. She retells the story of the death of Caroline Luard, making her fictional case to find the true murderers.
SPOILERS!!!
I like Walters' argument that the murder was linked to Mrs Luard's charitable giving, and the resentment that such charity could generate. However, the detail of the rings really bugged me. Would the murderers have known she only wore her rings on her left hand, even if they'd seen her many times before? Surely you have to be pretty close to someone to know where their jewellery habits? Wouldn't they have checked the right hand as well, just in case? Just a little thing but it bugged me.
Handing it back to TheGreenMan.

Since I've gone off the prospect of reading this, rather than hang onto it any longer, I am releasing it back into the wonderful world of BookCrossing. I'm planning to release it at this evening's BC Meetup - which is being held at The Eagle & Child in York from 7.15pm onwards...
