This was passed to me, unread and unregistered, by my friend and neighbour who sometimes BookCrosses as Blower, having had it passed on to her by another friendly bookworm! If I'm suitably impressed, I'll pass it back to her ....

Narrated by 10-year old Judith McPerson whose father is a single parent and very religious in the 'waiting for Armageddon and preaching warnings on street corners and door to door' fashion! Her refuge is her bedroom where she uses all sorts of rubbish to build a world .... When she covers her creation in snow, then wakes up to deep, traffic-stopping snowfall, although it's only October, she starts to believe she can perform miracles ....
While this is a powerful and well-written tale of growing up in a fundamentalist community, I had to abandon it because I couldn't stand reading about the school-bullying! Far too upsetting for tender sensibilities!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

To tree-hugger for her to take to the next meeting of York BookCrossers on Tuesday!

Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than eleven million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

I am surprised that this book apparently hasn't been nominated for any prizes. It is beautifully written, with a totally gripping plot. Some of the scenes are toe-curlingly dreadful and the tension towards the end is almost unbearable.
