Excellent world building. This is a well-crafted start to a fantasy series. It's set in a world similar to ancient Rome, but with the fantasy element of elemental spirits, called furies, that are bound to the people who occupy the world. The hero of the story is "fury-less" making him an outsider. He is forced to rely on his wit and courage to defend himself and his home. Classic hero-journey story.
