Maria Domenica is the eldest daughter of a farmer and a housewife, her future predetermined to her dismay. She is to be married soon, have children and spend her days cooking, cleaning and preparing the next meal. Obviously, she wants more out of life, and gets more than she bargained for, of her own doing and her bitchy little sister.
I think you don't have to live in a conservative family of the 60's, to know the burden expectation lay on a person, what it feels like to dream of another life, to have adventures. It was touching, and very well written.
