I found this fair-condition ex-library hardcover at the annual book sale of the Pepperell MA library. It's a graphic-novel retelling of the myth of Guan Yu, one of the main characters from the 14th-century epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
The story opens in a modern-day apartment where a young boy asks about a statue, leading his grandfather to tell him the story of Guan Yu and his blood brothers Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. The story includes individual adventures and large-scale battles, with lots of ups and downs - obviously treated rather quickly in this slim comic-book format, but of interest nonetheless. There's a list of further reading at the end of the book to encourage readers to dig further.

I'm adding this book to the Far East bookbox, which will be on its way to its next stop soon. Enjoy!
It's a time that glitters,
but of sunlight or steel
it's hard to say.

I read this and for some reason, hadn't really connected that this was a section of the story from the famous epic Chinese novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" by Guanzhong Luo. :P
Having said that, while I haven't tackled reading the Three Kingdoms, I still felt this was just a peek and very shallow overview of the one of the book set of prominent characters.
This is probably best for a younger group who aren't up to such complex interwoven storylines yet. This will most likely be enjoyed by young boys that love horses and soldiers and action.
This is good for that. :)

Well! There was someone that wanted this and a few other of my graphic novels. :)
I do believe that she wanted them because she's a teacher and wanted to add them to the schools library for the kids! :)
The fun part for me was, that these are off to Olney, IL. This is where one of my great Grandmothers' was born and raised. And she moved back there the last 8 years of her life, back to Cherry St. ;)
I wonder if they went to the same school that she went to??
