Flavieres used to be a police officer, but now he's quit his old job. He was running after a criminal and he, the runaway and another police officer ended up in a rooftop after him. As Flavieres is afraid of heights, it's the other cop the one who goes after the criminal, and it's the other cop who falls to his death.

So Flavieres becomes a private detective. An old schoolfriend of his appears and asks him to follow his wife, a beautiful lady who has weird delusions of being another person, a grandmother of hers called Pauline who is already dead. Because of this job, towards which he is so sceptical, Flavieres will fall in love with Madeleine. He will also save her life once.
