I've read a number of Briggs' novels- more or less contemporary paranormal, and I'm a big fan. This was quite different in that it was in a distinctly historical setting. The magic is all very different from Coyote shapeshifters etc and at first I needed to get into it. Eventually I was fully engaged (and rather seduced by the Hob), so that by the time the story drew to a close, I was very disappointed to see that this is apparently a stand-alone. I would very much have enjoyed seeing how Aren and the Hob got on! An enjoyable read.
