A wonderful classic, set in the gold rush, telling the story of a dog who is stolen from his master and taken into the wilds - and telling much about the nature of man as well as the nature of dog.

Thanks very much for tagging me and sending me this wishlist book. I will probably pass onto my sister and her family to read once I have read it.

Thanks also for the bookmark and lovely postcard!

Very moving and Darwinian in the descriptions of dogs and their behaviour. I really like the writing style, and vocabulary.

And I've now ... actually read it :)
Strange how many references to this work I noticed / read/ picked up on ... since getting to know this book through the 1001-list, while before I've never heard of it.
I liked the book, I think it's definetely worth it's being on the list, but sometimes I got a bit bored with the dog-side-of-the-story. I'm not that much of a dog-person anyway.
:-)
I noticed it on someone's wishlist :)))))
Will release it to her soon !

Oh dear, you're not a dog person... Then reading a book from a dog's perspective must really be hard.

I will try this book soon, but not this particular one, since I've got a double here. Got it for my birthday in Oppem's Birthday group, so I wil make this one available and release it soon. (Will keep room for my thoughts on it, of course!)

Thank you, Bloedengel, for thinking of me!!

Read the other version of this book. This is what I think about it:

I loved this book.
The fact that a dog is the main character is splendid. But I also like the descriptions of Buck's adventures, of dog behavior, of how men can make or break his dog(s).

Too bad the book is not longer, I would certainly have loved to read more.
