Alkuteos: Murder by the Book (1963)
Suomennos: Leena Sopenlehto
Punaiset dekkarit
274 sivua
Frances and Richard Lockridge together, and Richard Lockridge alone, have written more than 70 books, mostly murder mysteries - beginning in 1952 and continuing on to 1978. 26 murder mysteries feature Pam and Jerry North, amateur crime-solvers who have a habit of becoming accidentally embroiled in murder. This time Pam and Jerry are blamelessly enjoying a winter vacation in Key West, away from the slush and snow of their home in New York City, when murder strikes a fellow vacationer.
When Dr. Piersal is found murdered at the end of the hotel pier one morning, with only a pool boy to witness an unknown woman rushing from the area, the local constabulary has its work cut out for them, and Pam and Jerry are curious enough to start digging for alibis, who-might-haves, and why. The victim is a well-known physician with no local ties, no known enemies, and the end is a surprise, as are all the endings to the Lockridges' books.
This is light entertainment, with enough characters to keep anyone guessing as to who killed Dr. Piersal, and why. The background is Old Key West, as it must have been when this book was written in 1963, something anyone who visited those many years ago will probably appreciate.
For those who pefer modern, adult entertainment, there is no violence, gunplay, obscenity, mayhem, or sex - more like Agatha Christie than anyone else I could compare it to.

No joo, jotenkin tämä oli vähän vanhahtavan oloinen. Olikohan tässä tekohauskuutta vai mikä minua rassasi? Jotenkin ei vain päästy vauhtiin. En suinkaan tarkoita, että veren roiskinnalla pitäisi hekumoida. Henkilötkin olivat hiukan hataria tarinan lisäksi. Vaan tulihan luettua. Kirja ei siis kuulu suosikkeihini.

Löysin tämän Torikeskuksen aulasta Sastamalasta. Tainnut merkintä jäädä välistä kun on jätetty eri paikkaan kuin mistä löytyi
