This quote from the cover of the book sounds like it sums up the book:

"It is impossible to describe this novel in a few words. Read it and marvel, and give thanks that such a novel can come out of Australia" - Dorothy Hewett

I haven't read it yet, so I can't say whether I agree. But this book certainly looks promising!

From the back cover:
Gianni Terremoto is a baker. He is on a quest to bake his way into history. Gianni's lover's breasts have become the baker's mental mould for his rolls and sourdoughs and his daughter Francesca is about to become enshrined as the new local saint, their carnival martyr. In the year in question Good Friday and April Fool's Day coincide. Gianni, born an April Fool, decides to bake a hot cross bun the like of which there's never been. The ensuing hallucinations and food poisoning derail the entire town. This, then, is the story of the first Breadmaker's Carnival. When Easter and the Carnival collide, the town is changed forever.

Guidelines for this BookRing

1. When you receive the book, make a quick journal entry so we all know it’s safe in your hands. If you can, include an estimate of how long you think it will take you to read it.

2. Read the book at your own pace, but try to keep to a maximum of one month. If you’re taking more than a month, add an extra journal entry to let us know where you’re at with the book.

3. Once you’ve finished it, make a journal entry with your thoughts on the book.

4. PM the next person on the list to ask for their snail mail address. If you don’t hear back within 3 days, try PMing once more. If you still don’t get a response try the next person on the list, and PM me so I know what’s happening.

5. Post the book off to the next person, and make a journal entry (NOT release notes) to say that you’ve sent it on.

Happy reading everyone!

Protracted illness, exams, moving house and travel (all unexpected, except for the exams, which were just plain unwanted!) have conspired to keep me from this book, but I thought I'd drop a quick entry to say that I'm just about to start it, and will try and get it back on the road again ASAP.

I am so utterly mortified. The book ended up under the bed, and I'm embarassed to say that out of sight meant out of mind. I'm taking it away to the country this weekend, PMing for the next address, and I will post it out on Wednesday, the day I get back. I cannot tell you how horrified I am to have held onto it this long. I'm sorry!
