- A Pride & Prejudice Variation
Bought second hand because I cannot resist a Darcybook ;-)
"I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry." Elizabeth Bennet's furious response to Mr. Darcy's marriage proposal in Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice has resonated for generations of readers. But what if she never had a chance to say it? Would she learn to recognize Mr. Darcy's admirable qualities on her own? The Last Man in the World follows Elizabeth and Darcy as they struggle to find their way through the maze of their prejudices after Elizabeth, against her better judgment, agrees to marry Darcy instead of saying those famous words. Two of the most beloved characters in English literature explore the meaning of true love on a tumultuous journey to make a success of their marriage."

This variation is differnt to the other novels from Mrs. Reynolds. It is sad, more like a Bronte novel rather than an Austen novel.
Lizzy suddenly finds herself married to a man she does not love and he doesn't realise that his love is not returned. That is sooo sad. Elizabeth spirit is broken, but she tries to arrange herself in this new life she knew she could not escape. Darcy is dissapointing to realise that his wife is not the witful spirited woman he fell in love with.
Will there be a chance for a happy end in this version?

I seem to have a big need for Darcybooks right now, I started to reread them all.
Yes, it was so sad again. Maybe this is even the most realistic version being stuck in an unwanted marrige without love.
I am so happy I live do now, when women can live how they choose.
I enjoy reading about places I just visited in April like Cubarb Edge.

Yeah, I am mad, I know. I read this book again. The more I reread Mrs Reynolds novels, the better I like this one. And the happy novels tend to get a bit more boring.
I just love this version, but I am not sure that they will ever compleatly overcome the hurting from their early marrage.
I am still waiting for a version without a happy end!

Yes, by now it is one of my favorit versions.
But I was really anoyed how they resolved the misunderstanding about Elizabeth being not allowed to contact her family. I mean it does not explain everxthing that Darcy cannot listen while reading. He didn't want contact from the beginning on and he should admit that that was wrong.
Still I am hoping for a version which is even sadder. Something like he is marrying an other woman, without love. She has to work as a governess after her father dies. They meet again 10 years later at a houseparty where he is guest and she is emplyed...

Same procidure as every year:
This is always a good and sad story.

This time it did not seem that heartbreaking to me. Still a lovely sad story.
