I found this fair-condition UK-edition hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop, and thought it looked entertaining. (The Discworld-esque elephants and turtle on the cover tickled me.)
Some of the entries here were familiar to me, but quite a few were new, so I got some entertainment from reading about those - and from checking the bibliography for further reading! There are sections on all sorts of areas of study, some of which have become much more rigorous in recent centuries/decades while others - astrology, anyone? - still seem to be very popular despite having no science behind them.
Definitely a good book for dipping into at random, rather than reading straight through. Could be fun to use as a resource for dinner-table arguments, too {wry grin}.
