I found this hardcover at a local Goodwill thrift shop, and nabbed it for another release copy. It's a mystery anthology with a medieval theme, and the contributors include Margaret Frazer, Peter Tremayne, and Ellis Peters, among others.

Among my favorite stories:

"The Country of the Blind", in which a sightless young girl from a convent and a wandering minstrel wind up trying to untangle a mystery.

"Cold as Fire", which features a young Thomas Becket - and a prophecy that he should have paid more heed to.

"My Horse for a Kingdom" is hinged on the fact that a herald is sacred, never to be harmed by either side - so when one turns up dead, it's a very serious matter indeed. The motive in this case is unusual, and serves as a reminder that a seemingly small thing can have wide-reaching effects.

"A Gift from God" introduces a talented healer whose beauty draws the wrong kind of attention from a brutal local lord. What she and her husband do about this makes up an intriguing story.

"The Queen's Chastity" is told in two timestreams, one in the medieval period when the events took place and another from a future time where academics are debating the evidence surrounding the queen's alleged confession to an out-of-wedlock child...

"For the Love of Old Bones" includes considerable drama as well as some forensic science (medieval-style), in the unraveling of a killing that occurred during an attack on a band of monks. Lots of twists in this one.

And the Ellis Peters entry, "Light on the Road to Woodstock", has a special charm for me, as it features a man-at-arms just returned from the Crusades, and confronted with the question of what to do with the rest of his life. He encounters another man who's made his own choice, and by the end of the story (not that it's a surprise to Peters fans) we see Cadfael choosing his future...
