I found this slightly-battered ex-library hardcover at a local thrift shop, and was taken by Franklin Lake's charming art-style. It's about a town beset by crows, and a young boy who has a pet crow that he loves. The boy wants to find a way to get his father a worthy gift for his birthday, and when he learns that a prestigious golden umbrella will be given to whoever rids the town of the crows, he determines that the prize shall be his.
