Cutting for Stone

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon. Orphaned by their mother’s death and their father’s disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution.
Moving from Addis Ababa to New York City and back again, Cutting for Stone is an unforgettable story of love and betrayal, medicine and ordinary miracles--and two brothers whose fates are forever intertwined.

Thank you so much for being kind enough to send this to me amcamp1644! It looks like it is going to be a really good story.
This was really good. As I was reading I realised how little I know about Ethiopia and Eritrea. There were a great range of characters and the bits about medicine and surgery didn't feel like an interruption, but flowed well with the rest of the story. Thanks very much for sharing this one amcamp1644. I have another reader in mind for it.
And off it goes to Kingfan30 as a springtime swap! Happy reading!

Thank you for sending me this, I'm just over half way through the book I'm sending you, so it won't be long.
22 June 18 - I've visited Namibia and South Africa on holidays and they are both countries I fell in love with and I would love to explore some more of this continent. My knowledge of Ethiopia is probably limited to the images I remember seeing on the TV when I was a kid, so it was interesting to find out more.
I was gripped from the start, in fact I got to half way through in just a few days which is no mean feat when you are busy with work and decorating the house at the same time! The younger years of Marion and Shiva and how they came to be in this world was just a part of the story that I couldn't put down. Once they became older I felt I could take a breath with the book, it was still fascinating, but not quite as gripping as the earlier pages. I lived the way it all came together towards the end. Why not full stars, some of the medical terms and surgery scenes, just went over my head as I am not familiar with them, although the author did try his best to explain them.
