Arrived today from thegreenlady. Thanks. Have to finish another book before I start this one. Note to CBCD: it might be nice if you add to your journal entry that this is a heavy hardback book. Just so people can anticipate the postage costs. Ta.

Reasonable plot and easy to read story which kept my interest, but unfortunately marred for me by the poor standard of writing. Yes, I know he is/was only a teenager etc etc, but I'm not surprised he initially had some difficulty finding a publisher. The simplistic repetitive sentence construction detracted from my enjoyment of the plot, and the character development was pretty two dimensional; such that I really couldn't *feel* much for any of them no matter what happened.
I'll probably read his next one at some stage but wouldn't rush out to buy it.
Now off to the UK.

Recieved this yesterday morning! Just got one book to finish and then I can start it. I'm really looking forward to reading this after everything I've heard about it!

----Update----

Started this now and I'm really enjoying it!

Journal Entry 16 by raven4022 from Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom on Monday, January 17, 2005
I really enjoyed this book. I kept looking out for things that would put me off because of some of the negative reviews I've seen on amazon, but not many did. The only thing that bothered me was the travelling timeline, how it seemed to take them longer to travel much shorter distances at some points, but then it would take them half the time to travel more than three times the distance at others.
Other than that I liked it and will probably be reading the next one as soon as it's out!
Thanks CBCD for sharing!

After all the hype I had read about this book, I was really looking forward to read it. My expectations were not high, which was probably a good thing ... What crimson-tide said before was quite true for me: I was unable to relate deeply to any of the characters, couldn't even feel sad when one of them dies, and the writing style really annoyed me sometimes ... nevertheless, the flow of the story was just good enough for me to keep going (ok, so I skipped a chpater here and there ...), and I guess that's quite good for something written by a 15-year old ;-) Inevitably, I coudn't help but compare this to some of my fantasy favourites (Paolini seems to have got his inspiration from the right places, at least ..): elves, dwarves and the ultimate evil ? something from Tolkien, I guess ... dragons and dragonriders ? maybe from Anne McCaffrey or even Melanie Rawn ...
Anyway, I'll probably read the next volume when it comes out, but I'm definitely not buying my own copy of this ... (so thanks CBCD for organising this ray :-)

Will be mailed to Wareagle78 today.

I confess, I signed up for this bookring hoping that my son would want to read the book. I've had very bad luck buying books for him, but thought I'd give this a try. Sure enough, as soon as I unwrapped it, he pounced! He loved it and has ordered the second book with his own money. He sped through except at the end, which he thought dragged.

Thanks for sharing the book with my family! I've PMd princessaurora and will send the book on when I get an address. NOTE: Mailed 6/4/05

I've had this for a few weeks and forgot to journal it. Sorry! I started reading this and after about 3 or 4 chapters, I just couldn't get into it, so I'm going to pm the next person for an address and send it on.
