In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach - an "outlander" in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord . . . 1743.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Tropical Greenhouse
Found James Nasmith holding this, my favourite book of an amazing series in his arms as I was walking by him in downtown Almonte, Ontario. Wondering what the statue of the creator of basketball was doing reading Herself's creation, I had to take a peek.
Outlander has been my favourite book since the first time I read it, oh, roughly 20 years ago. It has everything you could possibly want, action, mystery, a bit magical, historical period piece with strong characters that feel alive. The personages of Claire and Jamie (and the rest of the crew) are multifaceted and deep.
This book is full of charm, laughs, steamy moments, danger and outrage. It is a fast easy read that will get you hooked! Not to worry, the series isn't done yet, and there are spin offs and short stories also based on the wonderful characters and the world Diana Gabaldon has created.

I found this book in a recently renovated greenhouse at the experimental farm in Ottawa. It was a freezing wintery day and my husband and I wanted to momentarily experience a moment in the tropical greenhouse. I took this book to Cuba with me hoping to leave it there but I didn't finish it in time. So in March I left it in Almonte placed in the hands of bronze sculpture of Mr Naismith , the inventor of basketball. I found this book extremely well researched and interesting , particularly the parts about herbal medecines. On the other hand, it accurately depicted the times as very brutal and for this reason I don't think I will continue with thee series.
