A serious balance of scale,
where they weight shift
can cause a tantrum.

The die has been cast! And now a new set of books has pulled on their hiking boots and trudged off to a new camp! ;)
A book trade, a set of dreams, as it were.
It was kind of funny, but originally this was one of those books that I was planning to sneak in as an extra into your box! ha ha But then you went and picked it, so I had to rifle through my stuff to find one of the other ones. :P
I had intended to include it because I thought it was one of those that you should definitely read! The cover is really catching and draws the eye, doesn't? And several of the first pages are also in color and they make you sorely wish that the rest of the book was too!
That's not the case but you do get to console yourself with a great story. Of course, the overall story is fun and you can see the thread of deeper aspects starting to be woven in, but my favorite part? The thing that makes me love this one? It's the frugality of the kingdoms princes. They are virtually completely poor, even though they are royality. So I find it ironically fitting, that like people that lived through the great depression, they exhibit the behaviors of people who have learned not to waste anything at all!
It cracks me up because I'm kind of like that myself so I grinned and laughed at the things he said because I've caught myself saying similiar things. It's such a down to earth thing to find in a manga that I think would not normally be included with such vividness. It really gave this manga a rich taste for me.
And I was devastated to find that there are no volumes beyond the first available and probably never will be. This is a terrible loss. TT-TT

The box-o-trade-books arrived safely today; many thanks! It's sad to learn that the entire series isn't available in English; checking some scanlation sites, it seems there are 6 volumes, but not all of those have even fan-translations. Ah, well, this wouldn't be the first series I've only been able to sample!
Later: I agree about the impoverished-nobles aspect of the story - it makes for a more interesting tale than the more-typical wealthy, costume-porn setups. And I got a kick out of the mixup over which prince was being set up to marry the neighboring princess, a plot-twist that I haven't seen before.
That said, I found the artwork a bit sketchy, and the whole shrinking-algorithm thing more than a little weird. [Plenty of manga seem to love the magical-instant-shape-shifting, from Ranma 1/2 on, but this version is awfully gimmicky, though it was rather fun watching the characters work out how to use it to their advantage - if only they can control each other's reactions in a timely manner!]
My favorite part of the book: two words. Giant. Anteaters!
This volume ends with the VERY creepy "Uncle Samson and Violet" scenes, not the happiest of cliffhangers. Maybe I'll just turn back to the anteaters {wry grin}.
