This arrived via BetterWorldBooks yesterday, a Christmas gift from my sister. How sweet! It's a beautiful hardback (ex-library) and I love the look of it. I admit I haven't read fantasy in a while, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

I finished this quite quickly, by the end of January; it was an interesting read, compulsive in that it kept me turning the pages to know what happened. Both the "world" of the book and the characters were very real and fleshed out, which was nice. Overall, an enjoyable escape fantasy. However - my problem with the book is that, as first of a trilogy, I think the author left far too many loose threads hanging at the end of the novel. I understand wanting us interested enough to to pick up the next one, but really, a book should be able to stand on its own, I think.

This has been on my PC for a while; as it was a gift from my sister I'd planned to keep it. But truthfully I am probably never going to re-read it, and ApoloniaX told me her colleagues enjoy YA type books. So here goes!
