Given to me by a friend for Bookcrossing. Okay, good story. Girl lives through hard times and the dust bowl. Mother dies in accident, girl maimed. Father starts to drink, times are tough as she comes of age.
Newberry Award winner. Written as a series of prose poems by girl. Good story, prose poems overdone as a vehicle. Guess it was a slow Newberry year.

Found on a park bench. Started to read it but couldn't get into the poetry style of the book so I'm leaving it for the next promising reader in Albert Lea, Mn.
