This book is part of the author's retelling of Arthurian myth. It's a complex story told from the point of view of Morgaine (Morgan Le Fay) who is interpreted as being a pagan Priestess of the old British religion.
The action takes place in the Dark Ages, with Arthur interpreted as a ruler struggling to unite Britain against the Saxon invaders following the Roman withdrawal. Bradley writes an intelligent and well-researched tale, with a good mix of action, love and history.
