Published in 2010, this was already a couple of years old when we visited the city (I bought it on a whim from an excellent secondhand charity bookshop on Bath Rd, Cheltenham). Using an old travel guide can be interesting, as you sometimes spot recent changes, and of course frustrating when the restaurant you wanted to try turns out to have closed or the museum has changed its opening times. But in fact we found Krakow to be a very accessible place and hugely enjoyed the time we spent there.

We had the good fortune to arrive the very day (Easter Monday) that the author had first shown her face. Someone had warned the local youth to leave tourists alone by this time (probably a case of too many damaged cameras!) but we enjoyed watching the fights pop up in unexpected places.

Disappointed to see the bookshelves have gone - if it were up to me I'd make them a compulsory feature of anywhere that sells food or drink - but there are still books on the little tables. I left this under the coffee table.
