I love Edwidge Danticat's writing. Very beautiful. She tackles very difficult topics brilliantly. I have spotted this on a couple of wishlists so plan to RABCK it soon.
And off it goes to Pippis as a little New year rabckery. Happy reading!

Thank you very much for the wishlist book! Ever since I read my first Danticat novel, I've been enchanted by her style of writing. No matter how hard the issue, how ugly the scene she's writing about, she leaves you empowered, not depressed. She'll be one receiving a Nobel some day.

For some reason, Danticat's novels keep me enthralled but her short stories are a struggle. They are filled with life, but perhaps it's the way of life she's portraying in her short stories that I just can't relate with and hence don't get carried away. I don't get emotional while reading about children or feel mothers' struggles on a deeper level, so most of the stories in Krik? Krak! left me quite cold. Beautifully written, but didn't leave an impression.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Haitian short stories looking for a new Finnish reader at local meet-up!

Taken at the meet-up - it's rare to come across authors from Haiti so I'm curious.

Many tragic, yet strangely enjoyable stories in this one! My favourite was perhaps the first one, 'Children of the sea'. And the least interesting was the last (and unfortunately also the longest) one, about some dull wedding. But most stories inbetween were also quite fascinating & beautifully written - never read anything else from this author but will look her books up now.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Going to the winner of 'Authors from unusual countries' sweepstakes. Enjoy! :)
Many thanks for sending this one sakirmo :)
I actually tried getting a copy of this in e-book form from our library earlier this year, but they didn't have it, so I'm really pleased to finally be able to read it.

Honestly, how has this book sat on my shelf for almost 4 years!
The first I've read by this author, but won't be the last. She really has a beautiful way of writing. Very heartfelt.
The stories gave a glimpse into the Haitian way of life, which seems very different to the way most of us live.
