I found this good-condition softcover among the charity-sale books at a local Hannaford's, and couldn't resist the title. I've enjoyed some of Smith's other works, including The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but this looks to be a very different kind of story!
Later: amusing concept, with a professor of philology being mistaken for a veterinarian, getting caught up in a scheme to transport saintly relics, and other mishaps - but while I loved the idea, I wasn't caught up in the stories. Ah, well! Perhaps a future reader will love the book and write such a glowing review that I'll have to give it another try someday.
