This book is a bit like Philip Ardagh's The Not-So-Nice Goings-On At Victoria Lodge, which repurposed 19th century illustrations to create an absurd murder mystery. But despite some good moments, it seldom reaches that book's heights of surreality, and doesn't really aspire to coherence - it feels like a good idea stretched too thin.
