Journal Entry 1 by libragirl from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, February 21, 2004
I was going to release this book, but had a further look at it. I share the same birthday as the author, this edition is a centenary edition - 100 years after her birth - the book I found has the inscription "To Russell with love from Joss - Xmas 1992"
I think I will keep it as part of my Private Collection - but it will be available for people to read and return.

General Book Ring Rules:
1. When you receive the book, make a journal entry so we all get the thrill of knowing where it's at.
2. Send a private message (PM) to the next person in line for their address. If they do not respond within three days, PM them again. If they do not respond within a week of your first message, PM the person after them and contact me.
3. Read the book, within 30 days, and make a journal entry to tell us what you have thought about the book. You can be as brief or as lengthy as you wish with your thoughts about the book.
Please remember, that there are many anxious readers patiently waiting to read the book after you. Please bear this in mind! If you tend to be a slow reader, like myself, and need the month to finish the book, please make a periodic journal entry indicating how far you are into the story, or thoughts about what you have read so far. This way we know that the book has not been forgotten in your ‘to-be-read’ pile.
4. When you are ready to send the book to the next person in line, make release notes/a journal entry to say when the book is leaving your hands and who'll be catching it next, and pop it into the post!
5. To the last person on the list: Please PM me and I will send you my mailing address:)
Thank you for participating!
***When you receive a PM from the person before you, letting you know that you are next in line, and you find yourself overwhelmed with book commitments,(or just life in general) Please PM me and I may be able to move you further down the list.
Regards
libragirl

I read the whole book but didn't really understand many of the stories as fully as I would like to have.
Maybe its the time when it was written and therefore the language used, or perhaps I found that many of the stories seemed to end suddenly when I felt there should be more.
The book was ok but I don't think I will try any more of Kathrine Mansfield's stories.
And for anyone else reading this book who doesn't speak French, "Je ne parle pas français" translates to "I do not speak French" according to an online dictionary I found.
Off to succulent very soon. :)

This book arrived in the mail today from rarsberry in NZ. I will start reading it tonight and as I'm on holidays should zip through it quite quickly.
I attempted to read several of the stories but they didn't hold my interest and I couldn't get into them.I felt the need for a book I could really lose myself in, so decided not to persist with this one. Have sent it to secretariat today and hope she will enjoy it.
I signed up for this ring because I thought this book of short stories would have some of Mansfield's short stories I had not read before. I was surprised to find that it had no new ones, but I read several of them any way because I couldn't remember reading them before.
I enjoy Mansfield's work because she has such a real touch. Her stories are filled with everyday people, many of them lonely or disconnected. My favorites were the story about the couple who can't decide whether they should embrace their growing attraction to each other and change their friendship and the ageing actress (or not). Mansfield always leaves you wondering about how those people were a month later or a year later. You never feel comfortable after reading about one of her characters.

Katherine Mansfield was quite an excellent writer. She knows how to bring her characters to life. I found that I could really see into the souls of some of the characters in these short stories. Thank you for sharing this! I will get it mailed out tomorrow.
This book was mailed to lady-anglophile today!
Received it today. it took the book along time to arrive to kuwait. i thought it got lost in the mail. i'm glad its arrived safe and sound :)
Thank you libragirl for inculding me in this bookring. I've waited the book to arrive here so long to enjoy reading the work of a New Zlealander author. but unfortunately the book arrived in a bad time!!! I tried many times to read it but i simply couldnt get myself in the right mood. whenever i open the book and start reading i get absent minded!!!
I read the introduction though. it seems that Katherine Mansfield is a very talented writer. i also read part of "Je ne parle pa francis" and i liked its narration and the psychological revelation of the main character. It is pity that i couldnt read more of K.M's stories :(
I feel so bad for not being able to read it,, but i really cant hog the book with me any longer.
I am sending it back to libragirl since i couldnt get hold of Hengameh.
