A sinister figure stalks the gas-lit groves of Cremorne Gardens, the last pleasure-ground on the banks of the Thames. His weapon, a sharp pair of scissors. His victims, young women in the first bloom of youth. HIs crime - merely to remove a lock of their hair. Inspector Decimus Webb of Scotland Yard suspects a harmless lunatic is at large. But when morbid obsession turns to murder, even Webb's loyal sergeant begins to doubt his judgement. As the press and his superiors clamour for answers, Webb's investigations lead him to Rose Perfitt, aspiring debutante and daughter of a respectable stock-broker. Will she fall prey to 'The Cutter' or does a worse fate beckon? One thing is certain - only Decimus Webb can save her.Lee Jackson's third Inspector Webb novel takes the reader into the forgotten world of the Victorian pleasure-garden, in a gripping mystery of garish gas-light and dark secrets. - See more at: http://www.randomhouse.com.au/books/lee-jackson/the-last-pleasure-garden-9780099469247.aspx#sthash.nKOQJo18.dpuf
Traveling to another bookcrosser as a Christmas present - Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much for this wishlist book. I experienced another of Lee Jackson's books (A Metropolitan Murder) as an audio book last year. I enjoyed it very much so am looking forward to this one. Thanks also for the lovely card, Bookcrossing labels, and sweets. The key ring is absolutely magic! I am going to use it for the back door key which hangs in the dining room, then I won't accidentally break it!
Thanks once again for a lovely parcel. I will be adding a photo to this journal entry I the next few days.

Really enjoyed that, just as I hoped I would. I will now have to actively seek out more of Lee Jackson's books. I am now going to see if Mrs D will read it next. After that I know exactly where to send it!
On the way to a Bookcrossing friend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this amusing Victorian murder mystery with its body count like the end of Hamlet or an episode of Midsomer Murders ....
Thanks again, Deltic!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Taking Christmas and New Year Greetings from North to West Yorkshire!
Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than eleven million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

A good Victorian murder mystery featuring the inevitable dour Inspector along with a trusty sidekick. The Victorian atmosphere is evoked credibly - especially that of the lively nightlife of the pleasure gardens - but the murder mystery itself is of rather a more sedate pace. The story builds steadily to its conclusion & while there's no nail biting moments there are one or two surprises along the way.
