Ex-library hardcover. A look at the 2004 tsunami and its impact on some individuals who live in Thailand (as opposed to the tourists who got a lot more press).
I do wish that wish this writer had "caught site" of the fact that spell check is not smart enough to actually be your friend: you actually need to use common sense as well. And apparently he never played Chutes and Ladders, since the text refers to "shoots" that transport liquid. Sigh.
But that's mostly nit-picking. The stories he tells make the people and their suffering very real, and I wonder how the survivors are doing today.
I like this bit, when the monks are praying over one man:
You sleep at night and get up in the morning, but now you will get up no more.
In the morning you stand up, but now you will stand up no more.
This will happen to everyone. No one can avoid this.
Now you are in peace.
I don't imagine that the words make the loss any easier to take, but I somehow find them comforting anyway.
Reserved for booklady331's Non-Fiction VBB (round 2).

I'm so glad you've found this book!
Won't you please make a journal entry to let the book's previous readers know that it's safely in your hands? How did you find it? What did you think of it? What are you going to do with it next?
It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books...or a little like geocaching - you can follow the book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)
