Amelia Peabody and her husband Radcliffe Emerson are Egyptologists in 1914. An attack on the Suez Canal and on Cairo are imminent and the British duo, along with their son and adopted daughter are caught up in the intrigue. There are plots and counter-plots and many daring escapes. For extra fun there's a side-plot with Amelia's archaeology nemesis, Sethos The Master Criminal, who seems to want two things: 1) to discredit Radcliffe, and 2) Amelia. It's a fun read, if not terribly memorable.
