A beautiful story. Even if the ending is sad.
A water spirit wishes to gain a soul through unconditional love and marriage to a mortal. The happy couple would have remained so, had not love for another crept into the heart of the Knight. Undine loyal still to her love for the Knight, tries to stop her family from taking revenge on her behalf.
When she leaves to live with her family again, her mortal husband and his new love consider her dead, and despite her dream warnings and the warnings of a holy man, get married. Where upon, as a water spirit she must revenge this slight on her soul but ending his life.
Her love and grief cause her to become a small spring of water, which wraps his grave within two arms before it flows gentle out to the lake.
