When Jamie MacDonald killed his wife, he knew he might face a life sentence. But what was life in a world without Maggie? The case divides the small town of Wheelock. James MacDonald has confessed to premeditated murder - Murder One. For his cousin Police Chief Cameron MacDonald, there´s no question this man should be arrested and tried - family blood ties or no. But for Cameron´s wife Allie, it´s not so clear-cut. She loves her husband more then life itself. If he were suffering and asked for help to die, she knows she would do anything for him. Now, for the first time in their marriage, she finds herself set against Cam, siding with Jamie and wondering if what he says is right; that in a relationship, there´s always one who loves more....

Read this book years ago, don´t remember it that well anymore.

REVIEW:- Yet another book that is (partly) written out of chronological order which sometimes causes difficulties for my elderly brain! I really applauded the original reaction of the "woman scorned" but no spoilers from me. At times the story seemed a little contrived e.g. when Allie was concerned with evidence gathering for a trial and interviewing witnesses when her usual job was as a florist. However it was a very enjoyable and poignant story. I loved how Jamie's love for Maggie was described. Later my heart was breaking on behalf of Allie as "each sentence tugged another out of her heart in an unbroken line" when she was confiding her feelings to someone else.

The main theme of the story was sensitively covered I thought and I really enjoyed the book as a whole, however I found it a little drawn out and repetitive towards the end.
