I found this good-condition little hardcover at the local library's ongoing book sale, and nabbed it for a Valentine release. It contains humorous illustrations of various types of insects, some quite accurate and others, more whimsical, engaged in more romantic behavior than is typical for the real-world ones {wry grin}. There are captions for each illustration, on some facet of love, and there's a guide at the end of the book with tidbits about the behaviors of the actual insects.

I admit I was amused by some of the pairings of captions with insects: the illustration of a pair of praying mantises has "Couples in love can tell each other a thousand things without talking." Lovely idea, but when you know how the typical praying mantis courtship ritual ends, it's a bit more sinister!

Overall I found the book quite entertaining, from the details in the illustrations (some insects are wearing teensy little scarves, or have shy smiles on their faces) to the end-notes on each species and their courtship rituals.
