Oh my god, this book was so good! You really go inside the mind of a 82year old woman who suffers from Alzheimers and in her mind the missing of Elizabeth takes her back to her youth when her sister Sukey gone missing!
Really well written and lovely characters. Also the dialogues between the characters are so touching that you feel like you are really there.

Thanks for sharing, Lamilla.
Thanks for sharing, Lamilla.
Sent today (unread) to kiki66, who is next in line.
I would have really liked to read it, but I have been too busy with work, and the pressure to move it on was too much (understandable, on the other hand).

Elizabeth has been found! in Gauting ;-)
thanks for sending it my way - started reading already!

Finished this book last night - and have to admit it was no easy read for me.
I liked the characters, but I was kind of annoyed that there was this big secret where Elizabeth is - and in the end you learn that Maud knew it all the time but (of course) simply forgot. What annoyed me was the fact that a lot of other events she forgot where repeated (and told) again and again - but not this one! Well, the book would have been finished quite early then.
It would have been easy for Helen to tell her (and us!) again. Can't say more - would be a spoiler.
Otherwise the flashbacks into her youth were good.. the way of life after the war..
I have asked marulaPL for her address so hopefully the book will be soon on its way!

Maud's friend Elizabeth is missing, and she knows she needs to look for her but she's increasingly confused, and the mystery of one missing woman gets mixed up with her sister Sukey going missing 70 years earlier. This is absolutely gripping and a very compassionate account of dementia and the frustration and pain it causes to Maud's daughter.

I was starting to freak out, because it took more than one week to come from the UK, but I guess I am still not used to the Dutch post timings...
Thanks for letting me participate in this ring! I can't wait to start!

This book is heart breaking! I mean, for the first time I got an idea of what might be going on my grandmother’s head when she moved to my parents’ house.
I found a lot of similarities with Katy, I was always the one making jokes and not asking so many “Whats” but a lot more “Really? Tell me more about that”, just because I loved to hear her speak about her life.
In what concerns the plot, I like how both now and then are told in parallel, we can see Sukey, Frank, Douglas and little Maud evolving, at the same time we also see big Maud evolving in her disease…
Who is really missing? You will have to read to find out! :-)

I already asked glade1 for the address, so this book can cross the Athlantic Ocean :-)
Thanks again go Lamilla for allowing me to participate in the ring!

Elizabeth arrived today! I have a couple of TBRs promised to other BCers that are ahead of this one but will try to read quickly!
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Elizabeth is Missing is an artfully crafted mystery story, but more importantly it is a poignant and insightful meditation on the possible workings of a deteriorating mind. The first-person narrator, Maud, is an octogenarian widow who is suffering from dementia. Her memories of her youth are far clearer than those of what happened five minutes ago, but her mind keeps returning to the same themes: her friend Elizabeth is missing from her home, and her sister Sukey went missing nearly 70 years ago. While those around her dismiss her concerns about Elizabeth, Maud frets about the loss of her friend while sporadically recalling the events surrounding her sister's disappearance.
The author gradually and carefully pieces together clues to Sukey's disappearance, and to Elizabeth's, and presents Maud's inner monologue with all its clarity and imperfections, with its details and muddled memory, its smooth paths and rutted skips. Maud's daughter is frustrated and exhausted, her caretakers are benign but ineffectual. My favorite character is her granddaughter, Katy, who accepts Maud's condition with equanimity and continues to joke with her, respect her, and love her for who she is.
This book is beautifully written and fascinating. I read it in about a day and a half (including a full work day in the middle) - couldn't stand to be away from it until I came to the end. I highly recommend this one!
Thank you for including me in the ring. I have PMed Readertoo for an address to move it along.

Sent to Readertoo via Media Mail. I hope you like it as well as I did. It's my favorite read so far this year!
I just received the book today from glade1. Thank you for including me in your ring. I am excited to get started reading it!
This was such a sad and tragic story that gave a unique insight into the struggles of those suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's disease and the difficulties and heart break of caring for a loved one suffering from this horrific disease. I also appreciated the setting which gave me a glimpse of life in England during World War One and the struggles of surviving after the bombings while living on food rations. It was a very interesting book and even though it took a little while to get into it I'm glad I had the chance to read it. Thank you Lamila for including me in your book ring. I will be sending it off to valpete as soon as she sends me her mailing address.
Elizabeth has arrived in California. I do have several other Rings/Rays ahead of this one, although I do promise to read, review and return it to Lamilla.
Please let me know if I'm taking too much time, and I'll move it to the head of the line.

This story was about Maud, an older woman and her progressing dementia. It was a poignant story about a woman searching for her friend, Elizabeth, and trying to remember, inter-weaved with flash backs from her younger days. Actually, as it turns out, Elizabeth is not missing; however, Maud continually confuses the disappearance of her sister many years before with her friend, Elizabeth, going missing. A good read!
The book is back with me
The book is going to my NSS partner in Bordeaux
I got it in Bordeaux, from my NSS partner, thank you a lot !
