Coming-of-age story timed in early 90's. First love, high school etc.

I've wanted to read this book for some time now, so when I got the release alert I was very excited. I wasn't nearby, but I got Appelsiini to pick the book up for me. Today I got it. Thank you very much for releasing the book, it was great to catch something I really want to read!

I really really liked the book. So, thank you once again for releasing it!

I like that the story is written as letters to an anonymous recipient. I like the introspective, intelligent, considerate and somewhat troubled Charlie. I like the plot. This is by far one of the best books I've read this year and a great book in general. It reminded me of the short-lived tv show My So-Called Life, which I also like very much, in it's honesty in describing the teenager American life. It feels real with the happy times and the sad times, the ponderings and the troubles, the relationships with family, friends and other people.

The book was apparently banned in some American schools, probably because of the said honesty in covering topics like suicide, abuse and drug use. I also discovered that a film is made based on this book, which I now want to see.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this book yet. I don't think I'll just wild release it. I'd rather give it to someone. Therefore it is reserved for now. I'll also try to get a copy of the book for my permanent collection.

Probably because of the bookcrossing site construction I wasn't able to put "by post, to a fellow bookcrosser" in the release location, but I did send the book from Tampere, so that's sort of correct.
I hope this book travels safely and quick enough despite the ongoing postal strike in Finland.

I've seen the movie, which I liked a lot. Let's see what the book is like.

The book was a bit different from what I had expected it to be. It was written as letters to a "Dear reader", the protagonist seemed really simple and naive in some parts and clever in others. I liked the idea that love between family members and friends was important. There were many things going on in Charlie's life. I must say I liked the film more than the book- I might even watch it again after reading the book.

I left this book on the cupboard next to the cash desk under the big blackboard. Hope somebody will find it.
