This is the story of Jerry. An ordinary kid. No more rebellious, principled, honest, moral, than the next kid. Unfortunately the school he attends has a culture of bullying that has been allowed to take root, and grow throughout the school, culminating with a club called the Vigils, led by Archie, a charming and composed young sociopath. When the school turns a blind eye to the hazing conducted by the Vigils, (called 'assignments') inevitable disaster follows. Jerry becomes the unwitting focus of the Vigils over a chocolate sale the administrator Brother Leon is pushing.

There are no resolutions here, no grand moral finish, just the realization that The Lord of the Flies can and does occur in ordinary settings; you don't need a shipwreck and a Ralph of unusual moral fiber. You just need a school, a regular kid, and a culture of bullying that has been ignored by adults around it. No wonder this book is banned. The truth always hurts.

As for language? 2 'son of a bitch', a sprinkling of 'damn' and a few 'hells'. It's the 'truths', not the language that upset people about this book. Read it.

Fly far little book!
